Trip Itinerary Day 1 to Day 4

Our Orca Camp is a comfortable wilderness camp located on northern Vancouver Island. It has no public access, or street access and is only accessible for our exclusive clients, via our personal boat. It is quiet, remote and eco friendly. It has been developed over many years to reflect its natural surrounding using mostly natural material. There is a heated and covered group dinning area, essential oil outdoor sauna, hot shower and private tenting areas (max. 2 occupancy per tent or as a family you can request to sleep 4 max).

We are excited to provide you with the ideal trip itinerary for your 4-Day Orca Camp Tour on Vancouver Island. Please find the details below:

Day 1

On Day 1, your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from a designated location in Campbell River at 9 am. You will then embark on a 2-hour drive to reach the launching site. From there, a quick boat ride will take you into the camp.

After arriving at the camp, you can look forward to a delicious lunch around 1:30 pm. If weather conditions permit, an afternoon paddle will be on the agenda. As the day progresses, you can enjoy a refreshing coffee and tea break at approximately 4 pm.

During your downtime, there are various activities available for relaxation and enjoyment. You can indulge in whale watching, participate in art activities, or even experience the outdoor sauna.

As evening approaches, dinner will be served at 6:30 pm. Following dinner, there may be an opportunity for a sunset paddle to soak in the breathtaking surroundings. To cap off the day, gather around a cozy campfire for some delightful moments with fellow adventurers.

Please note that this itinerary is subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors to ensure your safety and optimal experience. Please always ask your guide for additional kayaking time, such as early morning paddles (before breakfast) or after dinner (Sunset Paddles). 

Day 2

On Day 2 of your adventure, you can expect a delightful start with coffee being served at 8 am. Following that, a scrumptious breakfast will be served at 9 am to fuel you up for the exciting activities ahead.

Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to enjoy kayaking and whale watching. These activities will allow you to immerse yourself in the stunning natural surroundings and observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

At around 1:30 pm, a delicious lunch will be provided, giving you a chance to replenish your energy levels. Afterward, there will be a short hike lasting approximately 60 minutes to a hidden waterfall, where you can marvel at the beauty of nature and capture some memorable moments.

Around 4 pm, there will be a coffee and tea break to offer a refreshing pause and reenergize before continuing with the activities. You will also have the chance to engage in some whale watching from the shore during this time.

As evening approaches, dinner will be served at 6:30 pm, allowing you to indulge in a satisfying meal while enjoying the company of fellow adventurers. Additionally, there may be the possibility of enjoying an outdoor sauna session and gathering around a campfire to unwind and share stories of the day’s experiences or enjoy a sunset paddle. 

Overall, Day 2 promises an exciting blend of adventure, relaxation, and culinary delights, ensuring that you have an unforgettable experience during your trip.

Day 3:

On Day 3 of your adventure, you have an exciting day planned ahead! Breakfast will be served at 8 am to fuel you up for the day. After breakfast, you will embark on a full day boat tour into Blackfish Sound. Please note that we are the only company in this area who offers such as service during similar kayaking tours! Blackfish sound is know for it’s abundance of marine wildlife. This area is known for its stunning beauty and diverse marine life.

More details about the boat tour will be provided on-site, ensuring that you have all the necessary information to make the most of this experience. It’s a great opportunity to explore the waters and encounter fascinating wildlife.

For lunch, you will have the chance to enjoy a meal in a remote area, surrounded by nature’s tranquility. Afterward, you will return to the camp for a coffee and tea break at approximately 4 pm. This will be a perfect opportunity to relax and recharge before continuing with your activities.

In the evening, dinner will be served at 6:30 pm, providing you with a delicious meal to end the day. Additionally, there is a possibility of enjoying an outdoor sauna and gathering around a campfire. These activities offer a chance to unwind and connect with nature in a unique way.

Day 4:

On Day 4, the day will start with breakfast being served at approximately 8:00am. After breakfast, the group will prepare for their final kayaking trip to the borders of the renowned Robson Bight Ecological Orca reserve. This will be a fantastic opportunity to explore the area one more time before lunch.

Lunch will be served around 1:30 pm, allowing the group to replenish their energy after an exciting morning on the water. Following lunch, the group will depart from the camp at approximately 2:30 pm.

The return journey to Campbell River is scheduled for around 5:00 pm, providing enough time for everyone to comfortably reach their destination.

When is the best time to see orcas?

From Mid-July, especially August and early September is our prime time, but every moment holds potential for breathtaking encounters with orcas, humpbacks, sea lions, eagles, and more. A voyage that will leave you in awe of our marine treasures.

What activities are included?

Sea kayaking excursions to the boundaries of Michael Biggs Robson Bight Ecological Orca Reserve, whale watching from shore, fishing, plus, we are the only company in this area that offers a zodiac boat tour while attending our 4 Day Orca Camp Tour. Plus our outdoor sauna with essential oil therapy,  will provide the outdoor wellness you are looking for. Small hikes are also offered to a hidden waterfall and on special requests a longer hike to Eagle Eye Orca research centre may be arranged. Clients also love to beach comb, and camp through-out the day with a good book or delicious cup tea, beer, wine, coffee: you get the idea!  We have also put together a small outdoor library plus a tote of board games. Please remember, there are is no bad weather, only bad rain-gear! 

Is this adventure tour for everybody?

If you love whales, dolphins, kayaking, camping, fishing and the great outdoors, then this is the right trip for you! 
This exclusive special tour is very exciting, relaxing and rejuvenating trip in BC’s wilderness. We have had guests ranging from 4 to 84 years old and this makes for a great family trip. A moderate level of fitness is recommended but not required. Simply enjoy the camp and choose your level of activity. We cater to all dietary requirements. Our guides are always there to ensure that your Vancouver Island wilderness experience is comfortable, safe, and relaxing.

What to expect from water & weather and surroundings?

Grey Wolf Expedition’s Orca Camp is a wild, magical and rugged place. At times we will be exposed to high winds, rain and stormy weather. You can not be sensitive to this type of weather or circumstances. We recommend to keep an open mind for adventure and trust your guides, that they will ensure the best adventure possible. Please be aware that Johnstone Strait is a marine highway for cruise ships, commercial fisherman, fella kayakers and other sailors. You will also find logging activity all over Vancouver Island’s Inside passage. Fishing and logging is part of our Island life. Sea Kayaking is only a part of this amazing adventure tour and may be limited to high winds and strong currents. Nevertheless, our zodiac tour may make up for lost time on the water.

Do you have single and double kayaks? And how stable are they?

Our tours offer both single and double kayaks, ensuring options for all adventurers. Rest assured, our boats are designed for stability, providing a safe and steady experience on the water. Our high quality Delta Kayaks are easy to navigate and your guide will be by your side, to explain every step of the way.

Where does the tour start from and where to park your vehicle?

This tour starts from convenient Campbell River BC. There are direct flights from Vancouver International Airport to Campbell River. We offer FREE pick up and DROP OFF in the morning of your tour from your hotel/motel in Campbell River.

Can you guarantee Orca sightings?

While we can’t guarantee any wildlife sightings, book between mid-July and early September for the best chance to witness our northern resident orcas  in action. Remember, they are wild and free, so no guarantees, but we’ll ensure you’re at the right place at the right time. Adventure with anticipation, not expectation.

Kids under the age of 12 are half price. Snacks and meals tailored to your child’s needs are available to no extra charge. Kids crafts, arts and entertainment included plus a free adventure package. Ask us to have our daughter Anna, 14 years, join your tour, so your baby sitting is taken care off, when you simply want to sit at the beach and enjoy the scenery with a glass of wine after a fun day of adventures!

Gluten free meals available, as well as vegan, vegetarian, GMO free as well as organic options are carefully put together for each trip, with supporting up to 13 local businesses. Fresh local produce out of our own garden, local eggs and local meats with each trip are provided. Your health and outdoor wellness is our priority. 

Accommodations are warm and cozy walk-in tents, equipped with extra pillows and blankets, tent lights, slippers and towels.
