The Humpback Whale

A Humpbackʼs impressive song can last from few minutes until half an hour. A song performance can go on for several days, with only short breaks in between! While the meaning of their song seems so magical to us, we do know that only males sing and they perform mainly during the breeding season. Some of the most famous places for viewing Humpbacks are in the Johnstone Strait, where many Humpbacks spend their summers. Some whales may spend the entire summer off the BC Cost of Vancouver Island. But the best times to see them are during their spring and fall migrations. The Humpbacks of this region breed in the warm water of either Hawaii or Mexico and they typically pass by BC between late March and early May and again from August to October.
